Federation Is Helping to Provide Israeli Haredi Jews with Economic Opportunities

Federation is helping provide Israeli Haredi (ultra-Orthodox) Jews with economic opportunities through the TEVET Employment Initiative, developed by our overseas partner, the American Jewish Joint Distribution Center (JDC). For Haredi men, this includes vocational training, computer courses and small business mentorship. Ultra-Orthodox women can enroll in the Career Alternatives program, which provides training in software programming, interior design and engineering. Additionally, JDC’s academic internships have helped place 100 Haredi students in a variety of fields in both the corporate and public sector. Taken together, these efforts, which address poverty and underemployment in one of Israel’s most vulnerable populations, offer support as members of the community gain new skills and prepare for the changing economic landscape.
