Holocaust Memorial Miami Beach Launches Newly Designed, Interactive Website

The Holocaust Memorial Miami Beach, a Committee of the Greater Miami Jewish Federation, recently redesigned and launched its website, HolocaustMemorialMiamiBeach.org to tell the story of the awesome structure that sits along Meridian Avenue and Dade Boulevard as a tribute to the six million Jews that were murdered by the Nazis.

The completely updated site features sections about the development, construction and history of the Memorial, as well as interactive tools and links to informational and educational resources about the Holocaust.

“The new website is a digital display of the educational message of the Memorial and perpetuates the testimony of Holocaust survivors,” Andrew C. Hall, Chair of the Holocaust Memorial Miami Beach, said. “It also was created to serve as an ongoing informational resource to the community.”

The new site is organized into six sections:

  • About
This section of the new website details the building process and history of the Holocaust Memorial itself—from the initial meeting of the founders, to the struggle of acquiring land and the eventual dedication in 1990. This portion also provides information on the different Holocaust education programs organized by the Memorial, as well as the meaning of the inscribed Memorial Wall and how to add a name to the structure.

  • Visit
The Visit section includes general visitor information (hours of operation, directions, parking information, how to book a tour, etc.). A special Visitor Guestbook feature allows those who have visited the Memorial to share their experience through personal essays, poetry, pictures or videos. Teachers are especially encouraged to have their students share reflections on their Memorial visit in the Guestbook.

  • Learn
Teachers and students looking for educational resources will be able to find a brief history of the Holocaust as well as several links to more information in this section of the website. Teachers can also refer to these pages on how to prepare their students before a field trip visit to the Memorial.

  • News and Events
Newspaper, television and radio news clippings about the Memorial, along with resources and contact information for media personnel, can be found in this section. A calendar and information on upcoming events at the Memorial, including its November 10 Kristallnacht commemoration ceremony, is also provided.

  • Photos and Videos
Click on the Photos and Videos section for a photographic tour of the Memorial, explaining its artistic and educational significance. Other video and photo galleries of events will gradually be added to the website.

  • Support
The Holocaust Memorial Miami Beach was built with the financial support of its founders and private benefactors. There has never been an admission charge to visit the monument, which has endured solely through private financial donations. The Support section allows users to make individual or collective donations in several ways, including sponsoring student visits. The Support section also includes an online store offering books, DVDs and music CDs related to Holocaust study and remembrance.
