JCRC Honored by City of Miami Beach

During a recent City of Miami Beach Commission Meeting, Federation’s Jewish Community Relations Council (JCRC) and the Miami Beach Black Affairs Advisory Committee (BAAC) were honored by Commissioner Steven Meiner with a public proclamation in appreciation of their joint effort to strengthen ties between the two communities in South Florida, naming June 22 "Shine A Light On Antisemitism and Racism Day." Following the announcement, JCRC Director Josh Sayles and BAAC Chair Glendon Hall addressed the Commission, reflecting upon the growing collaboration. Highlights of recent JCRC programming include "Shine A Light On Antisemitism and Racism: A Black & Jewish Art Collaboration," the catalyst for the proclamation; Teens Advocating Together, an educational partnership between the JCRC and the Miami-Dade branch of the NAACP that unites Jewish and Black high school students to learn advocacy skills, have challenging conversations about identity and culminates with a daylong trip to Tallahassee; and J-Serve, which brings together teens to engage in hands-on volunteer projects and honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
