JDC Continues to Help in Ukraine

Following the June 6 bombing of Ukraine’s Kakhovka Hydroelectric Dam, the city of Kherson experienced extensive flooding, and Federation overseas partner the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee (JDC) immediately jumped into action to help local residents. JDC was in continuous contact with the more than 300 vulnerable Jewish elderly and children it serves throughout the year and distributed aid, offered evacuation services to those in flood zones and provided temporary accommodations to those needing housing. Some of JDC’s homecare workers even took clients into their own homes to ensure their care. Since the war between Russia and Ukraine began in February 2022, JDC and other Federation overseas partners have been providing life-saving assistance to those affected, including those wishing to make aliyah to Israel and those forced to remain in their home countries.
