Lion of Judah Luncheon ‘Celebrating the Happiness We Get by Giving’

As the saying goes, “It is better to give than receive,” and the women who generously support the Annual Greater Miami Jewish Federation/UJA Campaign have taken this concept to heart, deriving tremendous joy from being able to provide assistance to the most vulnerable in our Jewish community. Women’s Philanthropy of the Greater Miami Jewish Federation will once again honor that commitment to helping others at the annual Lion of Judah luncheon at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 30 at the InterContinental Miami, 100 Chopin Plaza.

The Lion of Judah luncheon will feature remarks from New York Times bestselling author Marci Shimoff, the female face behind the biggest self-help book phenomenon in history (Chicken Soup for the Soul) and one of the bestselling female nonfiction authors of all time. Her latest book is HAPPY FOR NO REASON: 7 Steps to Being Happy from the Inside Out. Click here to read more about Marci Shimoff.

The luncheon is being chaired by Charlotte Brodie, Miriam Fisher, Kimberly Mendelson, Elaine Richman and Elizabeth Schwartz. Mojdeh Khaghan Danial is Women's Philanthropy President and Laura P. Koffsky is Campaign Chair. At this year’s function, which follows closely on the heels of the International Lion of Judah Conference in New Orleans, Maxine E. Schwartz will be recognized with Miami’s 2010 Kipnis-Wilson Friedland Award, given every two years to extraordinary women who have set a high standard for philanthropy and volunteerism. These women have been chosen by their communities as “women of valor” with lifetimes of commitment to the Jewish world.

Couvert for this event is $90 (not tax-deductible), and includes valet parking. Registration and a kosher buffet luncheon will begin at 11:00 a.m., with the program getting under way at noon. A minimum gift of $5,000 to the 2011 Greater Miami Jewish Federation/UJA Women’s Campaign is requested. A Lion of Judah gift is not required of adult daughters and daughters-in-law to attend the luncheon.

Created in 1972 by Norma Kipnis-Wilson and Toby Friedland (z”l) for the Miami Women’s Division Campaign, the Lion of Judah is now an international symbol of commitment to the global Jewish community. This exciting program has brought together women of all ages and from many walks of life in order to play an essential role in creating social justice, healing the sick, feeding the hungry, preserving human dignity and building Jewish identity. Today, more than 16,000 women worldwide proudly wear the gold Lion pin to signify their commitment.
