Miami Beach Firefighters Volunteer in Israel

This past Monday, eight City of Miami Beach firefighters deployed to Israel to spend two weeks volunteering as first responders in Tel Aviv, Jerusalem and Haifa. Since Hamas’ brutal massacre on October 7, many of the country’s first responders have been called to the army reserves to support the Israel Defense Forces. Federation and Temple Beth Sholom are covering airfare and travel expenses for the firefighters. Members of Federation’s Israel Emergency Allocations Committee were there to send them off, including Women’s Philanthropy President Elise Udelson, Federation Board Member Mycki Ratzan and Women’s Amutot Initiative Chair and Israel and Overseas Committee Member Ilene Kossman. The Miami Beach Commission voted unanimously to authorize the international travel for any firefighter wishing to volunteer. We are grateful for their service.
