PAC Fall Seminar to Focus on “The Impact of the Eichmann Trial: 50 Years Later”

The Professional Advisory Committee (PAC) of The Foundation of the Greater Miami Jewish Federation will host its 2011 Fall Seminar on Tuesday, October 25 at Temple Israel, 137 NE 19 Street, Miami. The keynote speaker will be Dr. Deborah E. Lipstadt, author and Dorot Professor of Modern Jewish and Holocaust Studies at Emory University, who will address the topic, “The Impact of the Eichmann Trial: 50 Years Later.” This event is being co-sponsored by the Sue & Leonard Miller Center for Contemporary Judaic Studies at the University of Miami.

Registration and networking begin at 11 a.m., followed by lunch and the program at noon.

Dr. Deborah E. Lipstadt grabbed the world’s attention with her outspoken confrontation of Holocaust deniers. She is the author of several critically acclaimed books, including Beyond Belief: The American Press and the Coming of the Holocaust, Denying the Holocaust: The Growing Assault on Truth and Memory, History on Trial: My Day in Court with a Holocaust Denier and her newest publication, The Eichmann Trial, in which she examines the trial of Adolf Eichmann as a vital factor in the world’s perception of the Holocaust.

A gripping speaker, Dr. Lipstadt has appeared on CNN, Sixty Minutes, the Today Show, Good Morning America, National Public Radio’s Fresh Air and more. She is frequently called upon by members of the U.S. Congress to consult on political responses to Holocaust denial, and was historical consultant to the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum where she helped design the section dedicated to the American response to the Holocaust. She was also appointed by President Clinton to the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Council on which she served two terms.

Dr. Lipstadt’s latest book, The Eichmann Trial, will be available for purchase. A book signing will follow the program.

Couvert for the event, which includes a kosher lunch is $36 (not tax-deductible as a charitable contribution). There will be no solicitation of funds and application has been made for one hour of continuing education credit. To register, click here.
