Shalom Jerusalem Brings Israel to Romania

Federation overseas partner the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee (JDC) recently brought a taste of Israel to the community of Timisoara, Romania by co-sponsoring the first ever “Shalom Jerusalem” street festival. More than 70 volunteers worked tirelessly for weeks to transform a public garden into a lively corner of Jerusalem with the city’s sounds, smells, tastes and beauty. More than 15,000 visitors enjoyed a reproduction of the Western Wall, Israeli food and performances by dozens of national and local dancers and artists. The festival was one of JDC’s outreach initiatives that use alternative spaces to share Jewish tradition and culture.
