One Month Later, Federation Continues to Support Surfside

In the month since the collapse of Surfside’s Champlain Towers South, the Greater Miami Jewish Federation has distributed approximately $525,000 in immediate financial aid to those affected by the disaster as they try to rebuild their lives in the uncertain days ahead. With so many having lost everything, direct deposits to checking accounts and gift cards allow survivors to begin to replace personal essential items they have lost. Thanks to more than 8,000 donors and the support of Federations from Baltimore, Dallas, New York and others around the country, Federation’s Emergency Fund for the Surfside Building Collapse has raised more than $2 million. The Jewish Federation of Greater Houston, in particular, has been a beacon of support. Right away, members of their team offered a wealth of information and best practices they developed following the devastation of Hurricane Harvey. Houston's Jewish Family Service also sent a team of crisis counselors to Surfside to assist survivors, family members and others in the wake of the disaster. We remain grateful for their support.
