About Joel Tauber

Joel D. Tauber has been intimately involved in Jewish philanthropy for more than 40 years as President of the Detroit Federation, Chairman of the United Jewish Communities, The United Jewish Appeal, Operation Promise, Tel Aviv University, Vice Chairman of the Jewish Federations of North America’s Young Leadership Cabinet and member of both the Middle East Strategy Group of the Aspen Institute and the Hartman Institute in Jerusalem.

Two highlights of Mr. Tauber’s Jewish involvement include greeting hundreds of Russian olim (immigrants) during Operation Exodus, a fundraising campaign to assist in the emigration of Russian Jews during the 1970s, and participating in Operation Solomon, the momentous airlift of 14,325 Ethiopian Jews to Israel in May of 1991.

Aside from his Jewish involvements, Mr. Tauber is a Former Officer of United Way Community Services and The Great Detroit Interfaith Round Table for Diversity.
At the University of Michigan, he created The Tauber Institute for Global Operations and is active in the law school and athletic department.

Mr. Tauber received his B.A., M.B.A. and Law degree from The University of Michigan and an Honorary Doctorate from Tel Aviv University.
He is a business executive, whose companies process scrap materials for the stainless steel industry and supply plastic parts to the cosmetic industry. Using Israeli venture capital funds, Mr. Tauber created a plastic water container manufacturing joint venture with Kibbutz Yakum and has an interest in various high-tech enterprises.

He is married with three children, six granddaughters and four grandsons, all of whom are his pride and joy.
