Miami-Dade Jewish Educators Learn About Holocaust at Yad Vashem

Through a unique partnership between the Holocaust Memorial Miami Beach of the Greater Miami Jewish Federation and Yad Vashem’s International School for Holocaust Studies, 10 Jewish educators from Miami-Dade County spent 10 days in Israel this summer, learning new ways to share the lessons of the Shoah with their students. Participants represented a wide range of Jewish day schools, synagogue religious schools and Jewish studies programs from across the county.
“This study mission at Yad Vashem provided a very meaningful opportunity for the teachers to study the many insights and historical facts concerning the Holocaust,” noted Rabbi Solomon Schiff, Chairman of the Holocaust Memorial. “As they studied and experienced the many details of the Shoah, they are now better equipped to impart to their students the sacred lessons of the most horrible period of our Jewish history. It is most appropriate that this study mission took place during the 20th year of our own Holocaust Memorial.”
Rabbi Schiff added, “These educators will become another vital force in educating our young students about the importance of remembering the Shoah. The Holocaust Memorial will now become a key venue for their students, where they will see, hear and learn — firsthand — from the survivors what happened during those terrible years. This way, the students will learn and absorb the vital message of the Holocaust, namely, to never stand idly by, while hatred and bigotry threatens those around us. They will join in a chorus of commitment that will make the hope of ‘never again’ a living reality.”
