In Their Own Words...

Mojdeh and Robert Danial

“We created our Donor-Advised Fund (DAF) through the Greater Miami Jewish Federation because we believe our philanthropic dollars belong primarily within the Jewish community. Tzedakah has always been a family priority. We now hold at least two family meetings annually to consider our gifts; the DAF simplifies management and implementation of those grants, especially using the electronic platform. This past year, we also established three additional funds for each of our sons, Ethan, Joshua and Zachary. As young adults, our sons are ready to launch their individual philanthropic engagement beyond our family giving. There is nothing better than actively discussing philanthropy in a family setting, as well as encouraging each family member to express their personal preferences on social impact, too. It truly raises the bar on giving, resulting in real-time living legacies.”

“I love my Donor-Advised Fund, it simplifies my charitable giving while also offering me tax savings. I established my fund using appreciated stock, which gave me an immediate tax deduction for its fair market value without having to pay any capital gains taxes. Using the online platform, I can easily make charitable recommendations to those organizations that are important to me, like the Greater Miami Jewish Federation and Temple Beth Am, as well as my alma maters Smith College and Boston College Law School. As part of my pre-retirement planning, I strategically accelerated donations into my fund to ensure I would have ample charitable dollars to recommend once I retired from my full-time law practice. Having the Donor-Advised Fund available also makes me more apt to give quickly when asked, as the money is allocated. The support staff is amazing and the investment strategy makes me comfortable.”
