Onward Israel Miami Program to Give College Students a Unique Way to Experience Israel While Building Their Resumes

Twenty Miami college students will be traveling to Israel this summer to strengthen their personal and professional resumes through a specially designed overseas experience in Israel, thanks to a new opportunity created in collaboration between the Greater Miami Jewish Federation and The Jewish Agency for Israel’s Onward Israel initiative.

Every year, tens of thousands of young adults travel abroad for short-term summer internships, volunteer opportunities and summer study. Onward Israel meets the need for these young adults by offering a low-cost, resume-building experience. While most of the participants will have already been to Israel through Taglit-Birthright Israel or other teen programs, Onward Israel will allow them to have a longer experience, which will translate into a stronger connection to Israel and the Jewish community at home.

“Onward Israel is an amazing opportunity for our college students to build their resumes and further strengthen their Jewish identity while working in Israel,” Diane Lipson Schilit, Israel Programs Chair said. “They will have a unique experience while living in the center of Tel Aviv, one of the most exciting cities in the world.”

This highly subsidized eight-week professional internship program allows Jewish college students attending the University of Miami and Hillel YAD to live in Tel Aviv, which was recently dubbed the “world’s smartest city,” by the Smart City Expo World Congress. While living in Tel Aviv, participants will receive full room and board, have a relevant internship in a field of their choice, gain valuable professional experience, receive training and development, and explore a new country and culture. Opportunities will be available to learn about the Miami community’s investment in Israel and how to create Israel engagement back in Miami through this experience.

Onward Israel Miami runs June 7-July 30, 2015. The cost is only $500 plus airfare.
