Program Teaches Miami Marlins Staff About Antisemitism

With this week’s release of the annual FBI Hate Crime Statistics Act Report, which showed that reported hate crimes targeting the Jewish community made up nearly 60 percent of all religiously motivated hate crimes, we know education is an increasingly important tool to combat hate. With this in mind, Miami Marlins staff members recently attended a learning session on the history and rise of antisemitism, the Holocaust, local hate crimes, today’s political landscape and how social media impacts the conversation. Organized by Federation partner, Hillel at FIU, the panel was moderated by Jon Warech, Hillel's Executive Director, and included Josh Sayles, Director of Federation Jewish Community Relations Council, Carly Orshan, Director of the Teen Department and March of the Living at Federation subsidiary agency Center for the Advancement of Jewish Education and Yael Hershfield, Deputy Director of the Anti-Defamation League. The meaningful program reached a wide audience — helping to build bridges across our diverse community.
