D-Day Commemorative Event Sunday, June 7

Beth Torah Benny Rok Campus will host “D-Day and the Road to Liberation,” a Holocaust remembrance program, on Sunday, June 7 at 1 p.m. at the synagogue, 20350 Northeast 26th Avenue in Aventura. The event is supported by the Holocaust Memorial Miami Beach, a Committee of the Greater Miami Jewish Federation.

This special event will honor World War II veterans and Holocaust survivors while commemorating the 70th anniversary of the liberation of Nazi concentration camps. The program will feature a presentation by Michael Berenbaum, Director of the Sigi Ziering Institute at American University, where he is a Professor of Jewish Studies.

Berenbaum also is the author and editor of more than 20 books, countless scholarly articles and newspaper pieces. He is a museum and historical film development consultant. His work as co-producer of One Survivor Remembers: The Gerda Weissman Klein Story was recognized with an Academy Award, an Emmy Award and a Cable Ace Award.

The event also will feature the screening of Liberation, a film that depicts the Allied campaign to liberate Europe and Hitler's genocidal campaign against the Jews. The World War II documentary uses film footage, radio broadcasts, and period music gathered from archives around the world. Interwoven throughout the film are compelling stories of the Jews of Europe - unforgettable accounts of tragedy, courage, resistance, and survival.

“D-Day and the Road to Liberation” is being presented by Beth Torah Benny Rok Campus, the Holocaust Memorial Miami Beach, the Greater Miami Jewish Federation, Florida Department of Education and Jewish War Veterans.
