Many Programs Around Miami-Dade for Young Couples and Families with Young Children

Young couples and families with young children have an opportunity to enjoy a variety of Shabbat services and other activities throughout Miami-Dade County.

A list of the programs available through area synagogues and other organizations is coordinated by the Young Leadership Division and The PJ Library of the Greater Miami Jewish Federation. (See below.)

Choose from a variety of worship services or sign up for educational programs like The PJ Library's Storytime events.

Tot Shabbat Children’s Services, a fun, meaningful and engaging way to celebrate Shabbat as a family. With songs, interactive prayers, puppets, stories, games and treats.
11:00 a.m. – noon — November 13; December 11; January 8, 2011; February 12; March 12; April 9 and May 14
Junior Congregation Children’s Services encourage students’ participation in the Shabbat service and strengthens Jewish identity. With Jewish trivia, games, songs, stories and treats.
10:00 a.m. – noon — November 13; December 11; January 8, 2011; February 12; March 12; April 9 and May 14
Hanukkah Happening, Hanukkah and Friday Night Live services. Menorah lighting, Hanukkah and Shabbat songs. Friday night catered Shabbat dinner and activities for children. Prices TBD. Please bring an unwrapped, new toy for the annual holiday toy drive.
6:00 – 9:00 p.m. — December 3, 2010
Weekly Friday Night Live and Shabbat services, Musical and Lively Shabbat services with Rabbi Jonathan Berkun on guitar and Cantor David Muchnick on keyboard. Services followed by complimentary dairy Shabbat dinner. All ages are welcome to attend.
6:30 p.m. — every Friday through June 24, 2011
Shabbat Saturday Morning service followed by Kiddush.
8:30 a.m. — Every Saturday morning
Purim Shpiel & Costume Parade, Purim-themed performance of a popular Broadway play, followed by a costume parade, hamentashen reception. Fun for the whole family!

50-Minute Family Shabbat, Family-oriented welcoming Shabbat program with children from stroller age to 13. Children are with storytellers for part of the service and then return for Kiddush and cookies while parents learn for 10 minutes with Rabbi Ed Farber and Cantor Luis Cattan.
6:30 – 7:20 p.m. — Friday nights

Tot Shabbat, Shabbat morning program of song and celebration for children ages three to five. Song, play and snacks 9:45 – 11:15 a.m. — Every Shabbat morning during school year
Shabbat Mishpacha, Shabbat morning family service with song, Torah study and Tefilla for parents and children – ages six to 12. Led by Cantor Luis Cattan and Religious School staff.
10:00 – 11:00 a.m. — Every Shabbat during school year

Munchkin Minyan, an interactive Shabbat experience designed for families with children up to age seven.

Jewbilee, a family bonding experience that will help babies develop the senses through visual and auditory exercises, song and movement, tummy time and more, including parent discussions about how Judaism can enhance the family experience.

Rabbi Leon Kronish School for Living Judaism, Shabbat school program for children in kindergarten through sixth grades. Activities include Tefillah, art, drama, music, story-telling, Israeli dance, Hebrew through song, and special surprise activities.
9:30 a.m. - noon — Shabbat mornings
Tot Shabbat, 40-minute creative and interactive service for families with young children. Includes Tefillah, music, movement, stories and snacks, followed by Oneg and playground time.

Mishpacha Moments: Mishpacha is the Hebrew word for family, and this exciting program aims to make Jewish learning a family affair. Held twice a month, it provides the opportunity for children and parents to participate in a musical family Shabbat service, engage in a family educational experience, socialize and learn with other families. Programming is planned for children in pre-kindergarten through third grade, and younger participants are always welcome.
10:00 a.m.– noon — November 13; December 4 and 18; January 8 and 29, 2011; February 12 and 26; March 26; April 9 and 19; May 7 and 21; June 8
Tot Shabbat, our monthly Tot Shabbat with preschool families. Enjoy interactive prayers and stories, followed by hands-on activities for children — and, of course, food and play.
