Sixth Grader’s Art Featured on Federation High Holiday Greetings
As we have done each year since 2008, the Greater Miami Jewish Federation and our subsidiary agency, the Center for the Advancement of Jewish Education (CAJE), held an art contest for the cover of our 2013/5774 High Holiday greeting card. The winning entry was created by Alejandro Sabo in 2012, when he was a sixth-grade student at Jacobson Sinai Academy in North Miami Beach.
The card with Alejandro’s work was mailed to about 11,000 households in Miami’s Jewish community. In addition, it appeared on the home page of JewishMiami.org and is featured in the August 28 edition of Federation’s FastLink e-newsletter.
Students in grades 4 through 8 from Miami-area Jewish day schools and synagogue religious schools submitted more than 400 pieces of art for consideration by Federation and CAJE. Federation’s Board of Directors and Agencies, Day Schools and Synagogues (ADS) Committee voted on the entries. Alejandro’s work received top prize and was chosen to be featured on the Federation card. He and a winner from each grade level were honored with a special ceremony during Super Sunday this past March.
The grade winners were:
Grade 4: Rebecca Reines, Lehrman Community Day School
Grade 5: Joy Day, Lehrman Community Day School
Grade 6: Ruth Micha, Jacobson Sinai Academy
Grade 7: Alexa Benezra, Jacobson Sinai Academy
Grade 8: Orel Jamil, Rabbi Alexander S. Gross Hebrew Academy
Thank you to all of the participants, and mazel tov to the top artists!
