An Inspiring Night Out for Women

Women from throughout Miami-Dade County will gather together for an evening filled with fun and friends when Women’s Philanthropy of the Greater Miami Jewish Federation hosts Women’s Night Out on Tuesday, April 12, featuring internationally renowned clinical psychologist, public speaker and author Dr. Wendy Mogel. The program begins at 6 p.m. at Temple Emanu-El, 1701 Washington Ave., Miami Beach.

Mogel’s wit, warmth and psychological research are evident in her New York Times bestselling book The Blessing of a Skinned Knee and The Blessing of a B Minus, both of which focus on modern-day parenting through the lens of the Torah and other Jewish teachings.

A graduate of Middlebury College, Mogel completed an internship and post-doctoral fellowship in the Department of Psychiatry at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. She serves on the scientific advisory board of Challenge Success, a program of the Stanford University School of Education, and the boards of the Center for Early Education and the Counsel for Spiritual and Ethical Education — a century-old interfaith organization serving private schools. Mogel contributes articles to many publications — including Independent School Magazine, the Jewish Telegraphic Agency and Camping Magazine — and has been a keynote speaker at the annual meetings of numerous educational organizations. Her books and articles receive high praise from professionals and parents alike.

Noted author Rabbi Harold Kushner praises The Blessing of a B Minus saying, “Wise, witty and well-written, this book is a treasury of common sense for anyone dealing with adolescents.”

Couvert for Women’s Night Out, which is not tax-deductible, is $54 and includes light fare, cocktails, the evening’s program and valet parking. In addition, participants are asked to make a suggested minimum gift of a dollar a day ($365) to the 2011 Greater Miami Jewish Federation/UJA Campaign.

Those attending the event are also asked to bring donations of diapers, wipes, kosher baby food and formula for the JCS Kosher Food Bank.

Women’s Night Out is chaired by Silvia Assor, Pamela Behar, Sarah Burstein, Adrian Dubow and Sandra Lansing. Mojdeh Khaghan Danial is President of Women’s Philanthropy of the Greater Miami Jewish Federation, and Laura P. Koffsky is Campaign Chair.
