JVC Mitzvah Mondays at Alper JCC Miami

Now in its fifth year, Mitzvah Monday, run by Federation’s Jewish Volunteer Center (JVC), is teaching children at Alper JCC Miami’s summer camp to give back through hands-on activities involving tikkun olam (repairing the world). Each Monday, the JVC engages more than 300 Camp J Miami campers in community service projects. The first this summer was creating bags to be packed with food for people experiencing food insecurity. Other Mitzvah Monday tasks include prepping mac and cheese kits for the Community Fridge Initiative, supporting thousands with free, healthy food, and stuffing backpacks with school supplies for the Salvation Army’s Apple Tree Program, benefitting students in need. In addition, JVC offers two service trips for older campers and CITs, the first to Virginia Beach to contribute to the cleanup of Key Biscayne and the second to the Salvation Army to deliver backpacks and help serve lunch to their clients. Both the JVC and Alper JCC are recipients of the Annual Greater Miami Jewish Federation/UJA Campaign. For more information on Mitzvah Monday or to learn how you can become a JVC volunteer, contact JVC Director Lori Tabachnikoff at [email protected] or 786.866.8380.
