Stephen Owens

Stephen Owens is a 30-plus year veteran of Swire Properties Inc, one of the leading real estate developers in South Florida and a subsidiary of the Hong Kong-based Swire Properties Ltd, and has been in charge of U.S. operations since 1985. Prior to assuming his current role as President, Mr. Owens oversaw Swire’s commercial and residential investment portfolio totaling more than two million square feet.

He has headed the master planning of Brickell Key in downtown Miami, a major mixed-use urban development, for which he spearheaded the construction of the award-winning Courvoisier Centre office complex, the three-tower Tequesta Point luxury condominium development totaling 800 units, Courvoisier Courts, Courts Brickell Key, Carbonell and ASIA luxury condominium towers with a combined total of 2,120 units, and the JADE at Brickell Bay joint venture of 336 condominium residences. He directed the development of the 328 room world class luxury hotel - Mandarin Oriental Miami, with its renowned five-star spa and Azul Restaurant.

Mr. Owens’ responsibilities with Swire have encompassed some $3 billion in projects throughout the States of Florida, Hawaii, Texas and Hong Kong. Prior to rejoining Swire Properties Inc. in the United States in 1992, Owens spent two years with Swire Properties Ltd in the company’s Hong Kong headquarters where, as Director of Development, he was involved in the development of 680 residential units of 1.2 million feet, two five-star 500 room hotels and 1.4 million square feet of commercial properties.

Mr. Owens now oversees Swire’s newest development in Miami, Brickell CityCentre, an urban mixed-use development of 5.4 million gross square feet on three city blocks, comprising a hotel, office towers, retail, a wellness center and residential towers.

Mr. Owens’ community and charity involvements have included board memberships on Voices for Children, Tacolcy Belafonte Center of Liberty City, Performing Arts Center Foundation of Greater Miami, InRoads/South Florida, the United Way, and the Miami River Fund. Other affiliations have included the Council of 100, Florida International University, Foundation of Villa Vizcaya, Citizen Board and University of Miami. Past board memberships include City of Miami Blue Ribbon Council, Brickell Area Association, and World Trade Center, Miami.

Mr. Owens holds a bachelor of science in finance from East Carolina University, with advanced courses completed at Michigan State, NYU and Columbia.
