Federation Adopts Diversity and Inclusion Statement

Federation's Board of Directors recently approved a Diversity and Inclusion Statement to make an affirmative expression of its commitment to an inclusive and diverse community, one in which all are welcome. For many years, the Mission of the Greater Miami Jewish Federation has reflected the importance of unity. As community conveners, Federation strives to reinforce this value by representing the broadest spectrum of our population. The 2014 Federation Demographic Study revealed that Miami-Dade County is one of the most diverse Jewish communities in the United States.

Federation crafted this statement to ensure diversity remains at the forefront of everything we do. It also highlights a concerted effort to identify underrepresented population segments and send a clear signal to those who may not feel connected that they, too, are part of our great Jewish community.

The Statement reads: “The Greater Miami Jewish Federation strives to create a caring, inclusive and united community rooted in Jewish values and traditions. We embrace and value differences, such as ethnicity and national origin, religious denomination and spiritual practice, race, age, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, socio-economic levels and mental and physical ability.”

“The diversity of our Miami Jewish community is a strength that enriches us. The statement passed by the Board reaffirms our longstanding commitment to inclusion and outreach to each person in our community,” said Regina Zelonker, Chair of Elevate Leadership, the Federation Committee responsible for drafting the statement.
