Event Details

Description

Kristallnacht, also known as the “Night of Broken Glass,” took place on November 9–10, 1938 in Nazi Germany and Austria. It was a violent, state-sponsored attack on Jewish communities. Synagogues were burned, Jewish-owned businesses and homes were destroyed, and around 30,000 Jewish men were arrested and sent to concentration camps. The name comes from the shattered glass that covered the streets. Kristallnacht marked a major escalation of Nazi persecution and is often seen as the beginning of the Holocaust.
