Event Details

Description

July 18th will mark the 28th anniversary of the bombing of the AMIA Jewish Community Center, in Buenos Aires, Argentina. This attack is considered one of worst anti-Semitic acts since WWII, resulting in 85 deaths and over 300 injuries. Despite Iran’s and Hezbollah’s undeniable responsibility, no one has been brought to justice so far.

For over a decade American Jewish Committee (AJC) in South Florida has, on an annual basis, convened a community-wide initiative in partnership with over 50 local Jewish organizations and institutions, to honor the lives of the AMIA victims. Thanks to Aventura Turnberry Jewish Center, who will host the event this year.

This program, attended by hundreds of people and covered widely, has also provided an invaluable venue through which South Florida’s Jewish community not only raises its voice anew for the pending cause of justice but, also reflects jointly on ongoing issues affecting world Jewry, including growing anti-Semitism and the scourge of terrorism.

The recent anti-Semitic attacks in the US, and the permanent threat of terrorism, serve as reminders of the relevance of our community commemoration, led by AJC and its Belfer Institute for Latino and Latin American Affairs.

This year the memorial and candle lighting ceremony will be held on Tuesday, July 12th at 7:00 PM, at Aventura Turnberry Jewish Center, 20400 NE 30th Ave, Miami, FL 33180.
