Prepared and Ready: Federation’s Office of Community Security Protects Us All

“Our preparedness in safeguarding the Jewish community isn’t predicated on a single event or conflict,” said James Somohano, Director of the Greater Miami Jewish Federation’s Office of Community Security (OCS). He notes an increase in requests for OCS services since the war with Iran and the synagogue attack in West Bloomfield, MI. Federation's OCS was already vigorously engaged in providing active threat and situational awareness trainings. In the past year alone, they have coached more than 1,000 individuals in local organizations including schools, synagogues and JCCs and conducted threat and vulnerability assessments to help nonprofits obtain federal and state funding for security. This month, Federation will launch a Regional Threat Center in partnership with Secure Community Network and the South Florida Jewish Federations to ensure real-time intelligence sharing, threat monitoring and coordination with law enforcement.
