Florida Legislature Codifies IHRA Definition of Antisemitism

The Florida legislature unanimously passed the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) working definition of antisemitism into law last week (HB 187). Members of Federation’s Jewish Community Relations Council were there to witness the powerful moment, which coincided with the first-ever Israel Day at the Capitol. The bipartisan bill was championed by Reps. Mike Gottlieb (D) and Randy Fine (R), and Sen. Lori Berman (D). This important legislation will empower Florida’s Jewish community to more effectively combat antisemitism on college campuses, in our schools and throughout our communities, as the definition was originally created to assist governments, organizations and individuals to identify antisemitism in order to root it out.
