Reverse Tashlich - Miami Beach JCC Family Tikkun Olam Day

Please join us on Sunday, September, 29, 9:00 am for a family friendly, morning program on the MBJCC Sol Stern Dock as we use the kayaks and canoes of the Mariner Program to help keep the Indian Creek Waterway clean from plastic and other debris, in a pre-High Holiday - Reverse Tashlich! We will help the environment and help keep the intercostal behind the JCC! Bring your children and grandchildren! Lifeguards will be on duty. Community Service hours are available. This is a program of the Tikkun HaYam - Repair the Sea organization which organizes Reverse Tashlich programs all over the world. Volunteers from the climate and environmental organization VolunteerCleanUp.org. Volunteer Clean Up organization is focused building a grassroots movement against marine debris by helping facilitate educational shoreline, waterway and neighborhood cleanups. What is a Reverse Tashlich? Sponsored by the Jewish organization Tikkun HaYam-Repair the Sea, the Reverse Tashlich program, conducted worldwide, reimagines the High Holiday Tashlich ceremony of symbolically casting away sins into water. The symbolism is reversed: participants come together to clean up waterways that impact our lives, fostering a spiritual connection to and stewardship for the environment. A donation of $18 per person is requested (children under 12 are free). MB JCC Lifeguards will be present. Refreshments will be served! (This is a plastic free event - please bring reusable water bottles. We will have water for refills.) Community Service hours are available. A portion of the proceeds support the MBJC Mariners program and our co-sponsor for the day, VolunteerCleanUp.org, a non-profit dedicated to sponsoring a grassroots movement for clean beaches, shorelines and waterways. They will be on hand to assist with nets, grabbers, buckets and other equipment.

Online Event: From Inquisition to Genocide: The Untold Story of Sefarad & the Holocaust

Sunday, September 22, 1 - 2:30 PM

Event flyer

It's been 79 years since the end of the Holocaust, or Nazi Germany’s systematic and state-sponsored persecution and murder of six million Jews. Traditional Holocaust awareness has long focused on Ashkenazi Jewry, or Jews in Central and Eastern Europe. By numbers, they bore the brunt of the genocide. Yet, Sefardic Jewry was also profoundly devastated. In a time of antisemitism unprecedented since the Shoah, join Jewish Heritage Alliance (JHA) for a meaningful overview of a largely unknown chapter in the annals of the Holocaust.

Presenter Dr. Isaac Amon, JHA Director of Academic Research and an attorney and counselor at law, often speaks on the law, international criminal justice and Jewish memory, including antisemitism, the Inquisition and the Holocaust.
