Event poster

The Miami Jewish Film Festival presents a special screening of the award-winning Spanish-language film The Chess Player with producer Juan Antonio Casado in attendance to introduce the film and participate in an extended conversation with the audience following the screening.

Based on an extraordinary true story, The Chess Player follows Diego Padilla, the 1934 Spanish Chess Champion, whose life takes a dramatic turn when he falls in love with Marianne, a French journalist. As the Spanish Civil War erupts, the couple flees to France in search of safety. But when the Nazis occupy Paris, Diego is falsely accused of espionage and imprisoned in an SS facility. Facing unimaginable danger, he discovers that the one thing that may save his life is the very passion that made him a champion: chess.
