The Main Event Draws 1,400 People to Stand Strong With Israel

On Sunday, February 18, Greater Miami Jewish Federation President and CEO Jacob Solomon was honored with the Friend of Israel Humanitarian Award in front of 1,400 people at The Main Event. Among the attendees were 14 Past Federation Presidents and Board Chairs. The evening allowed the Jewish community to stand in solidarity with Israel and recognize Solomon for 42 years of service. His impassioned speech touched on a variety of topics, including our community’s continued robust support for Israel during the ongoing war with Hamas. The evening also included a keynote address by His Excellency Reuven “Ruvi” Rivlin, the 10th President of the State of Israel, and a conversation between Guest of Honor His Excellency Michael Herzog, Israeli Ambassador to the US and Emmy-Award-winning journalist Glenna Milberg, host of WPLG's This Week in South Florida. The program began with a rousing medley of songs performed by the Israel Defense Forces Special in Uniform Band, which brought the crowd to their feet. The evening raised more than $4 million for the 2024 Greater Miami Jewish Federation/UJA Campaign, which offers a lifeline of support through more than 170 programs around the world.
