Training Local Disaster Response Teams in Israel’s North

The Greater Miami Jewish Federation, in partnership with the national Federated system, has introduced a new emergency response training program in northern Israel to ensure residents will be properly cared for should Hezbollah launch an attack. An initiative of Federation partner IsraAid, Safe Harbor was launched just days before the July 27 Hezbollah attack on Majdal Shams. The three-month course will prepare response teams in 140 communities for both immediate and long-term response to complex emergency situations. This includes supporting and strengthening local leaders, who know best what their communities need. Participants will learn effective and efficient decision-making in emergencies and methods to prevent burnout, how to manage a control room, coordinate volunteers, cooperate with local authorities and develop actionable community emergency response plans.
