73-Year-Old Ukrainian Begins New Life With JDC’s Help

"It's hard, because, you know, it's very scary to start a new life at the age of 73. I feel pure terror," says Yelizaveta, a Ukrainian who was forced to hide in her bathroom when constant shellings threatened her safety. But then Yelizaveta called the hotline operated by Federation overseas partner the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee (JDC). The JDC evacuated her the next morning to a refugee camp in Moldova, where she has a comfortable room, nutritious food and peace of mind. Yelizaveta is grateful to be one of 35,000 refugees helped by JDC since the war began in Ukraine. Click here to hear her story in her own words. To donate to our Ukraine Emergency Fund, click here.
