Miami Welcomes Ukrainian Refugees

As Ukrainians continue to flee their war-torn country, many are coming to Miami, and our Jewish community is providing a much-needed welcome and services to help them acclimate to their new home. Federation is helping fund a case manager through our primary human services partner agency Jewish Community Services of South Florida, with additional support by the Shapiro Foundation, who is responsible for assisting newly arrived Ukrainians with housing, job placement, school enrollment, medical and mental health services, financial support and more. Meanwhile, this summer at the Federation-funded Michael-Ann Russell JCC, a swimming academy provided free weekly lessons every Sunday for Ukrainian refugees, with 47 children, ages 3-16, participating. The lessons are the brainchild of Nazarii Kosylo, a former Ukrainian national champion and National Team member, who said, “Swimming helps the refugees forget the war, even for just the moments while they are in the pool!” To donate to our Ukraine Emergency Fund, click here.
