The Deering Foundation partners with Artist-in-Residence Susana Behar to create a concert honoring Jewish American Heritage Month (JAHM) and Mother's Day Echoes of Heritage: A Sephardic Mother’s Song.
An internationally recognized interpreter of Sephardic song and an award-winning vocalist, Susana Behar has dedicated a significant part of her career to the preservation and performance of this rich musical tradition, appearing in festivals and concert series across the United States and abroad, including last year’s performance at the Library of Congress.
A recipient of the Florida Individual Artist Fellowship in Folk and Traditional Arts for her work in Sephardic music, Susana Behar has also served as Artist-in-Residence at History Miami Museum. This special performance will showcase the rich musical legacy of the Sephardic diaspora, bringing together captivating songs of love, longing, and cultural memory in Ladino, the historic language of Sephardic Jews. Deeply engaging and uplifting, the concert celebrates tradition while paying tribute to Susana’s maternal heritage, inviting audiences to experience the beauty, diversity and emotional depth of this timeless repertoire.
Susana Behar will be joined by a group of extraordinary musicians, with Michel Gonzalez on guitar and musical direction, Adolfo Herrera on percussion and Kenny Aponte on cello.
