Hurricane Ian Victims Still Need Our Help
Posted by Noa Waks Rudman on 10/12/2022 @ 04:52 PM
The Greater Miami Jewish Federation continues working hand-in-hand with neighboring federations and The Jewish Federations of North America to provide critical assistance to individuals and families impacted by Hurricane Ian.
We have provided financial support to a senior living facility in Sarasota that has offered emergency housing to older adults who were displaced due to the storm. Additionally, we have partnered with Cadena, an emergency response nonprofit, which immediately distributed solar lamps, water filtration devices and hygiene kits to low income families whose homes were flooded. We are also working with the Federations of Naples and Charlotte & Lee Counties to provide financial assistance to those whose homes were damaged or destroyed. If you have not yet contributed to our Hurricane Ian Emergency Fund, please click here to make a secure donation. As always, Federation will absorb all administrative costs so that 100 percent of funds donated to Hurricane Ian relief will provide critically needed aid to both the Jewish and non-Jewish communities affected by this catastrophic storm.

Dyslexia Awareness Resources Available
Posted by Noa Waks Rudman on 10/06/2022 @ 11:00 AM
October is National Dyslexia Awareness Month and Federation’s Miami Jewish Abilities Alliance (JAA) has created a resource page for people with dyslexia and related reading differences. In Miami, Federation’s Annual Campaign supports 10 Jewish day schools, including Scheck Hillel Community School, which operates learning programs for students with dyslexia. “We empower students diagnosed with dyslexia to become independent, successful learners who can maximize achievement in every way,” says Eileen Ginzburg, Scheck Hillel's Director of Academic Services. "Scheck Hillel is grateful for Federation’s generous support. Through our Academic Services programming, families no longer need to forego a Jewish education.” Says one student, “Scheck Hillel's Nativ program has the most supportive teachers who saw my potential, even though I couldn’t ... I will always be grateful to this program.” Click here to learn more about Miami JAA and the wide variety of resources available for individuals with disabilities and their loved ones.

Base Miami Starts Jewish Learning Experience For Interfaith Couples
Posted by Noa Waks Rudman on 09/28/2022 @ 02:50 PM
Federation subsidiary Base Miami has been chosen as the pilot partner for Embark, a project of The Jewish Federations of North America (JFNA) created in response to the growing number of interfaith marriages. The program, which has already enrolled 10 participating couples in Miami, brings the group together to study the tenets of Judaism and works to create a sense of community and a foundation for Jewish learning upon which participants can build their lives and raise their children. Miami was a natural choice for Embark’s pilot community since Base Miami had already began a number of initiatives targeting intermarried couples. One of those programs is Honeymoon Israel, which brings interfaith couples married less than five years to Israel for immersive Jewish experiences and provides follow-up educational activities upon their return. Director of Base Miami Rabbi Adam Gindea shared that Embark will offer two meetings per month, in addition to opportunities to join other events organized by Base Miami and Federation’s Young Leadership Division. “Our goals are to forge deep personal connections to Jewish heritage and values, while building and fostering meaningful shared experiences that will connect each cohort to the Jewish community,” he said. Interfaith couples interested in joining the program’s first cohort may contact Rabbi Gindea at [email protected].
