Come Together for the Shabbat of Love
Posted by Lauren Gold on 01/04/2024 @ 10:16 AM
Friday, January 19
Join in the upcoming Shabbat of Love — the largest Shabbat dinner celebration in North American history — to celebrate Jewish light and love with friends, family and neighbors. Organized by the Jewish Federations of North America with support from the Jim Joseph Foundation and partners across the Jewish community, this unprecedented Shabbat of solidarity will unify Jews of all ages to experience the sacred joy of the Sabbath.
The Shabbat of Love website gives participants a choice to attend or host a dinner and offers a downloadable Dinner Guide with information on Shabbat rituals and even suggested discussion topics. The site also contains prompts for Acts of Love — “how to spread love the Jewish way” — such as volunteering in your community and writing a letter of support to Jewish students on campus.

The Portuguese Jewish Experience: Its Influence on The Americas
Posted by Chany Stolik on 12/13/2023 @ 09:11 PM
Join us for a complimentary lecture by visiting scholar Rabbi Peter Tarlow entitled The Portuguese Jewish Experience: Its Influence on The Americas.
The lecture will take place on Tuesday, December 19, 7:30 pm, at Chabad, 1827 Ponce de Leon Blvd, Coral Gables.
RSVP: ChabadGables.com/lecture.
Rabbi Tarlow will address the history of the Portuguese Jewish experience and how that experience provides important lessons for American Jewry. Tarlow will not only delve into the impact of the Spanish and Portuguese Inquisitions on Modern Twenty-first Jewish life, but demonstrate how many who fled from Spain to Portugal and then to the New World are very much part of the current Sephardic return to Judaism.
He will also touch upon lessons that American Jews need to learn in these trying times and how the Portuguese Jewish story is not only one of past tragedy but also of future hope and rebirth.
This lecture is brought by Eugene and Barbara Rostov.
