Event Details

Description

Since 1995 Paulette has been able to trace her paternal ancestry back to the 17th century. She attended her first IAJGS Conference in 2010 in Los Angeles and an additional seven of the yearly IAJGS conferences (International Association of Jewish Genealogical Societies). Since then, she has used Jewishgen.org and Litvak SIG to trace her Jewish ancestors. She had success tracing her maternal grandfather’s family, but her maternal grandmother’s family remained a mystery until two months ago. Nikita, a 25-year-old Moscow researcher, contacted Paulette using Jewishgen.org’s Family Finder on May 20, 2022. He found court documents in the Moscow Police Archives accusing Lieb Gamus, Paulette’s great grandfather, of being a horse thief and brothel owner! Join us for a presentation about finding a criminal in the family with the help of a Moscow native with access to court records in Russia.
