Keynote Speaker
Karl A. Pillemer, PhD
Dr. Pillemer is the Hazel E. Reed Professor of Human Development at Cornell University and Professor of Gerontology in Medicine at Weill Cornell Medicine. An internationally renowned family sociologist and gerontologist, his research examines how individuals and their families develop and change throughout their lives. Over the past five years, he has conducted a program of research on the topic of family estrangement and reconciliation, which he will talk about at this event. A book was recently published from that project, Fault Lines: Fractured Families and How to Mend Them (Avery, 2020). Dr. Pillemer has authored five other books and over 150 scientific publications and speaks throughout the world on family issues. He also created the Cornell Legacy Project, dedicated to finding out what older people know about life that the rest of us don’t. This project led to two books: 30 Lessons for Living: Tried and True Advice from the Wisest Americans and 30 Lessons for Loving: Advice from the Wisest Americans on Love, Relationships, and Marriage.
The Program
Jewish Community Services of South Florida (JCS) has been approved by the Florida Board of Psychology and the Florida Board of Clinical Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy and Mental Health Counseling to sponsor 3.5 continuing education credits for mental health professionals. Also, The South Florida Guardianship Association has been approved by the Florida Statewide Public Guardianship for 4 CEUs for guardians. Continuing education credit will also be available for nurses.
