Tech-Career Honored with Presidential Award for Volunteerism

Federation grant recipient Tech-Career, a technological training center that prepares Ethiopian Israelis for employment in Israel’s burgeoning high tech sector, was honored with Israel’s prestigious 2023 Presidential Award for Volunteerism. The Lod-based nonprofit was one of 12 organizations to receive the award, presented last month by Israeli President Isaac Herzog and his wife Michal at Beit Hanassi, the President’s official residence in Jerusalem. Federation funding supports Tech-Career’s Full Stack Developer Technology Training Program, a nine-month course that includes career development and job placement. The program equips members of the Ethiopian-Israeli community with valuable high tech skills, preparing them to contribute to the start-up nation. Tech-Career boasts an 85% hiring rate for its graduates, who then become program mentors. Federation’s Ethiopian-Israeli Initiative supports programs that provide the community with academic help, legal counsel and employment opportunities, bridging the gap in social, educational and cultural acclimation.
