Federation Provides Emergency Help During Pandemic

Helping

Jewish teachings highlight the importance of extending an open hand to those in need, and throughout the pandemic, the Greater Miami Jewish Federation has done just that. When the crisis began, we immediately acted and created a $1.1 million fund to provide emergency grants of up to $1,500 to pay essential bills on behalf of individuals and families and interest-free loans of up to $3,000 through our Hebrew Free Loan Association of Miami. To date, we have distributed more than $891,000 in loans and grants to more than 500 people. The support has been a lifeline for so many, keeping individuals in their homes, feeding families, paying for health insurance and much more. “Our community has faced unprecedented needs,” said Isaac K. "Ike" Fisher, Federation Board Chair. “By helping those who are vulnerable weather the coronavirus crisis, we are fulfilling our Mission to provide a safety net in ordinary and extraordinary times.”
