Holocaust Education Week Begins With Kristallnacht

Federation’s community commemoration of Kristallnacht — The Night of Broken Glass — at the Holocaust Memorial Miami Beach on Sunday, November 5 at 6 p.m. marks the start of Holocaust Education Week. “With the war in Israel and the meteoric rise in antisemitism worldwide, now is the time for the Jewish community to gather in solidarity,” said Jessica Katz, Chair of the Holocaust Memorial Miami Beach. Attendees will hear eyewitness testimony to Kristallnacht, remember those who were murdered during the Holocaust and honor the courage and resilience of Survivors. Plus, the evening will also be dedicated to the memory of the 1,400 Israelis tragically murdered by Hamas terrorists on October 7. Kristallnacht is widely acknowledged as an antecedent of the Holocaust and was marked by widespread public attacks on Jews in Germany and Austria on November 9-10, 1938. Holocaust Education Week, which begins the same evening, explores the legacy of the Shoah through cultural, academic and personal perspectives in a series of film presentations, lectures and community discussions.
