Program Explores the Complexities of Israel

How do we discuss Israel and engage with others about the complexities our homeland faces? This challenging task was the subject of a 16-month initiative sponsored by Makom, the Israel Education Lab of Federation overseas partner The Jewish Agency for Israel. Educators from Makom worked with residents and professionals from Moishe House, an international program that provides home-based Jewish experiences for young adults. The participants learned about Israel’s history and contemporary issues, benefited from mentoring and engaged with each other during an in-person retreat. They also took part in a six-day Israel experience, where the group’s activities included meeting Palestinians in the West Bank and Israeli Jews in nearby cities, learning about the electoral political process and exploring Jewish-Arab relations. The goal was to provide multidimensional insights into Israel and strengthen the members’ Jewish identity. To learn more out the work of Federation overseas partners, click here.
