Immersive Opera Experience

Double Bill July 15 | 8:00 PM July 16 | 2:00 PM Temple Emanu-El Ballroom, 1701 Washington Avenue, Miami Beach

L'enfant et les sortilèges By Maurice Ravel Presented as part of MMF’s Immersive Opera Experiences, witness the enchanting tale of a mischievous child and the magical consequences of their actions, brought to life with the spellbinding power of projection mapping technology. In this whimsical French one-act opera which translates to “The child and the magic spells,” a young boy learns the importance of kindness and empathy. In a world where furniture, fire, and animals come to life, Ravel’s dreamy lyric score spins a modern fable with an ageless message. Immerse yourself into the scenes of the opera on a delightful musical journey as the child learns valuable life lessons and faces the consequences of their actions. Warning: Be advised that this production will incorporate moving projections which may cause vertigo or dizziness in some viewers.

Gianni Schicchi By Giacomo Puccini When an old curmudgeon dies, who inherits his fortune? In the aftermath of a wealthy man’s passing, Puccini’s one-act spins the uproarious tale of scheming relatives and one crafty neighbor, Gianni Schicchi. Filled with colorful characters and laced with Puccini's signature lyrical genius, this opera is an exhilarating rollercoaster of emotions that will have you laughing one moment and on the edge of your seat the next. Based on a brief reference in Dante’s Inferno, this comic opera showcases a wonderfully verismo ensemble cast singing Puccini’s score full of humorous musical devices and features one of the most memorable arias in the operatic canon, “O mio babbino caro.”

Classical Music Series at Temple Emanu-El: Le Nozze di Figaro

Le Nozze di Figaro July 8 | 8:00 PM July 9 | 2:00 PM Temple Emanu-El Sanctuary, 1701 Washington Avenue, Miami Beach By Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart One of Mozart’s most beloved works gets a classic retelling, bringing to Miami the music and characters that have captured the hearts of opera lovers the world over. Servants Figaro and his promised Susanna prepare for their upcoming wedding, only to find that his employer the Count has impure intentions for her as well. Fearing that the Count will reinstate the ancient First Night rite to rendezvous with her, Figaro sets about scheming to outsmart him. Meanwhile, the lovely Countess, to whom Susanna is ever faithful, begins to suspect the same and devises her own trap to catch him in his mischief. The classes battle in a light-hearted comedy sung in Italian by the MMF Opera Institute, which features some of Mozart’s most beautiful melodies ever written.
