Join us to hear the incredible personal story of Amir Tibon, an Israeli journalist for Haaretz and the author of the newly released book, The Gates of Gaza." Amir, a resident of Kibbutz Nahal Oz, hid with his family in a shelter for hours, surrounded by terrorists, until his father was able to heroically rescue them. Amir will be interviewed by renowned journalist and Jewish Agency Canadian Representative Yaron Deckel. Amir will be joined by Ayelet Nahmias-Verbin, Chair of The Jewish Agency Fund for Victims of Terror.

Laura Paresky Gould: SEEING DIFFERENTLY: MIAMI COLOR THEORY

Join us on Tuesday, November 19 at 7:30 PM at the Miami Beach JCC, for an evening with with artist Laura Paresky Gould in conversation with Mindy Solomon, founder of the Mindy Solomon Gallery. Explore Gould’s latest book, SEEING DIFFERENTLY: Miami Color Theory, featuring over 110 vibrant images of Miami’s architectural beauty. Enjoy a discussion, Q&A session, and book signing.

Miami Color Theory is a photography project by award-winning artist and graphic designer Laura Paresky Gould. The series, shot on an iPhone and posted daily to Instagram, focuses on the colors, lines, and shapes of Miami’s built environment, and encourages the practice of seeing to appreciate the beauty all around us. Her book, SEEING DIFFERENTLY: MIAMI COLOR THEORY (Tra Publishing, 2023) and video series for The Bass, Miami Beach’s contemporary art museum, focus on minimal photography and include engaging lessons on art and perception. Gould discovers hidden delights in even the smallest of details, creating a feeling of joy, and spurring viewers to capture the visual treats in their own surroundings.

Laura Paresky Gould is a graphic designer, animator, photographer, fine artist and entrepreneur based in Miami Beach.

In January 2021, just before Adobe Flash was removed from all major browsers, she recorded a keepsake copy of her vintage portfolio of animations, logo designs and saturated colorful photos captured on film. She decided to start shooting architecture and inanimate objects again, only this time with an iPhone. She posts these images onto her Instagram account @miamicolortheory.

Alexandra Zapruder will speak about her groundbreaking anthology of excerpts from diaries of children of the Holocaust, some who survived but many who did not.

Alexandra is the author of Salvaged Pages: Young Writers’ Diaries of the Holocaust. She was one of the original staff members of the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum. Among many ongoing responsibilities, she serves as the Education Director of The Defiant Requiem Foundation.

We will view a documentary film produced by Alina Ko of Art Garden Productions, hear from one of the film's artists and learn with a music therapist from Miami Cancer Institute. The program will include screening guidelines and other pertinent information from Sharsheret to support our discussion.
