Celebrating Israel 75 in Miami

The Greater Miami Jewish Federation is partnering with local Jewish organizations to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the founding of the State of Israel with festivities across Miami-Dade County.

To mark this milestone Yom Ha’Atzmaut, or Israel Independence Day, which falls on April 26, community events will take place April 25-30 — and everyone is invited! The celebrations will offer family fun, food and music at Miami's three Federation-supported JCCs: Alper JCC, Miami Beach JCC and Michael-Ann Russell JCC, including appearances by Israeli musical duo Yaoz Magenheim and Tsur Shoham, from Federation partner city Yerucham, who will perform popular Israeli songs on piano, flute and guitar; a cantorial concert of Israeli favorites in North Dade and a gala hosted by the Israeli community featuring Yardena Arzi. The Miami Jewish Abilities Alliance (MJAA), a Federation program, is recruiting volunteers for a Passover Special Mitzvah Seder, an event designed specifically for Jewish adults with developmental or physical challenges organized by Beth Torah Benny Rok Campus.

The event takes place on Monday, April 10 at Beth Torah Benny Rok Campus and volunteers are needed to serve as one-on-one companions for the participants and guide them through the Seder service and dinner. Help is also needed for setup and serving. The Seder, which is partially funded by an MJAA Inclusion Grant, has been structured to accommodate adults with disabilities, including seating with no more than seven people per table. Each guest will receive a filled Seder plate, a unique Haggadah in Pictures and a song sheet. There will be singing of prayers and songs with the words projected on a screen to make it easy to follow along. Souvenir photos will be available and each participant will leave with a plush frog keepsake. To see the volunteer opportunities and to register click here.
