ABOUT THE FILM Bagels meet bongos in THE MAMBONIKS, a 90-minute documentary that tells the little-known story of the Jewish love affair with Latin music. Set in New York, Havana, Miami Beach, and the Catskill Mountains, this uplifting film features a lovable, somewhat zany collection of dancers from the 1950s. Now retired yet still dancing in Florida, they share their passion for the mambo, the hot dance from Cuba that became a world-wide sensation. With an infectious soundtrack including Tito Puente, Celia Cruz and mambo king Pérez Prado, this film explores a mostly unexamined aspect of Jewish life and culture.

Tuesday, February 12th 7-9 PM
The Glory Days of the Catskills
The evening will be a celebration of the glory days of the Catskill Mountains. The 1986 documentary, Rise and Fall of the Borscht Belt, chronicles the popularity and demise of the summer pilgrimage from New York City to the Catskills once made by a million people each year from the 1920s to the 1960s. Written and directed by Peter Davis. Starring Joseph Wiseman.
Following, a short film on the upcoming Catskill Resort Museum will be shown by it’s director Jack Godfrey. The Catskill Resort Museum will enlighten visitors of all ages and they will be educated about the unique history of the Catskill resort region. The legendary comedians who performed during the glory days of the Catskill resort era will be enshrined in a Comedy Hall of Fame. Many of these comedians and entertainers went on to star in stage, screen and television. The core exhibition will include photographs, videos, film documentaries, music, oral history and numerous artifacts. The principle objective is to provide a comprehensive understanding of the history of the resorts and the contribution to American culture.
There are few people around who can tell the real story of those classic Catskill days better than Elaine Grossinger Etess, granddaughter of Selig and Malke Grossinger. Elaine will present the history of Grossinger’s Resort, one of the great hotels of the world in its day.

United Jewish Generations (UJG) presents a Grand Klezmer Concert featuring authentic Klezmer music. Michael Winograd and the Honorable Mentshn Klezmer Band will thrill the audience with some of the most unique musical masterpieces that were very popular in the first half of the 20th century. Unfortunately, much of Klezmer music has been modified in order to merge with current popular music genres. However UJG has searched far and wide to bring pure, genuine Klezmer music in order to bring back the wonderful memories of wedding music from 50 plus years ago. Anyone that comes will be absolutely ecstatic when they hear this wonderful concert and especially seniors.
“We are not going to settle with mediocrity, we provide the best for the most precious members of society, namely the senior population” says Rabbi Menachem Smith, president of United Jewish Generations.
The performance will take place at the North Miami Beach Julius Littman Performing Arts Theatre on Sunday, February 10, 2019 at 2PM. Tickets are priced from $10 and up. Click here to purchase tickets or visit the following stores; Torah Treasures in Miami Beach, Solutions Pharmacy in Sunny Isles and Aspaclaria Judaica in Aventura. (Aspaclaria ticket sales are from 10 AM – 1 PM only.)
The Honorable Mentshn Band is led by Virtuoso Klezmer clarinetist Michael Winograd who has performed and taught Klezmer music internationally, and is recognized as one of today's premier performers of Klezmer music. He is a co-founder of the Yiddish New York festival and the artistic director of KlezKanada, two of today's central hubs for Klezmer music and folk arts. The Honorable Mentshn Klezmer Band is truly a stellar group of musicians. There will also be an opening performance by the highly acclaimed Jaime Bronsztein Klezmer Band.
This show has been made possible with the support of the Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs, the Cultural Affairs Council, the Miami-Dade County Mayor, the Board of County Commissioners and many other anonymous donors.
This show is a project of United Jewish Generations, a Chabad organization started 15 years ago by Rabbi Menachem Smith. Their mission is to bring happiness and enjoyment to the Jewish senior citizen population. Attendees are encouraged to buy tickets early, to attain the best seats and also keep in mind that this event has sold out in the past!
