Mitzvah Day at Temple Emanu-El

Temple Emanu-El will be having a Mitzvah Day on Sunday, March 10th and is inviting the community to participate.

Join them to bake Hamentashen. Children will make Purim cards. Knitters will create “Shawls of Love”. Design and make placemats. Bring your Tzedakah box and roll the coins. Donate books, travel-size toiletries, Kosher food.

Baking starts at 10 AM. All other activities begin at 11 AM until 2 PM. Beneficiaries are the JCS, Kosher Food Bank, Shalom Bayit and chemotherapy patients.

Temple Emanu-El is located at 1701 Washington Avenue on Miami Beach.

Holocaust Impact Theater presents "Glimpse"

The Holocaust Impact Theater (HIT), now in its fifteenth year, is a unique theater project that engages local high school students to write, produce, direct and perform their original script. This year's production of "Glimpse" will be performed on March 14, 15 & 16 at 7pm at the Alper JCC's Robert Russell Theater. The students address timely, relevant social injustices and intolerance, while reflecting on the dangers of hate in society through The Holocaust. "Glimpse" will examine racial discrimination, drug abuse, sex trafficking, the trials and tribulations of foster care, and eating disorders with a strong Holocaust thread that weaves throughout the production.

Every February, Jewish communities worldwide join to advocate for inclusion of people with disabilities and mental health conditions to be accepted and included in all aspects of Jewish life like anyone else. Please join us this Shabbat, February 16 at 10:45 am, for a very special presentation from Mr. Alan T. Brown. Please bring your family and friends as we make a special welcome to all people with disabilities.

Alan T. Brown was injured in 1988, at the age of 20, when his neck was crushed. The accident left Alan, a hockey player, a quadriplegic. For nearly 31 years since the accident, Alan and his family have, through the Alan T Brown Foundation to Cure Paralysis, provided support, education, and advocacy for the paralysis community. Alan is Director of Public Impact at the Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation. He also has achieved many personal goals, including completing three New York City Marathons, skydiving, and scuba diving. His proudest accomplishment is becoming a father to his two young sons.
