The High Holiday Season, when we consider the meaning and purpose of our lives, is the perfect time to remember those who had such an impact upon us. For this reason, it is a popular custom to visit cemeteries between Rosh HaShanah and Yom Kippur. This custom, called kever avot (literally, graves of our parents), is an opportunity to raise, remember and celebrate the souls of those who are no longer with us and reflect upon our own mortality and our role in this life.
