Three time Olympic Gold Medalist, Anthony Ervin at the Alper JCC
Posted by Brooke Kahn on 06/13/2019 @ 01:47 PM
Do you have a passion for swimming? Join us out on the JCC pool deck with three time Olympic Gold Medalist, Anthony Ervin! Ervin will visit the Aquatics Center at the Alper JCC on Saturday morning, June 22, 2019 from 10am-1pm to meet swimmers and instruct a swim clinic. Guests can also snap some photos and get an autograph.
Ervin became the first American of African descent to win a gold medal in the 50-meter freestyle at the 2000 Summer Olympics. Later the same year, the California native went on to earn a silver medal with his team in the 4x100-meter freestyle relay. After retiring from the sport in 2003, Ervin made the 2012 USA Olympic team. Then 16 years after earning his first gold medal, he made an incredible comeback by winning gold again in the 50-meter freestyle and the 4×100 meter freestyle relay at the 2016 Summer Games. The gold medal performance at the age of 35 made Ervin the oldest individual Olympic swimmer ever.
In addition to being a great swimmer, Ervin is a humanitarian. In 2003, he auctioned off his 2000 gold medal on eBay to help the survivors after the 2004 tsunami.
The Alper JCC is thrilled to offer the opportunity for swimmers to get in the water with an Olympian this summer. Cost to attend is $49.99
