Scheck Hillel Students Feed Families in Need in Israel, Core Values Guide Annual High School Trip
Posted by Becky Morhaim on 07/23/2019 @ 02:10 PM
NORTH MIAMI BEACH – Scheck Hillel Community School grade 9 students incorporated their school’s core values throughout their trip to Israel in May-June. One specific example fed hungry families. During their visit, the group of more than 60 students volunteered with the non-profit organization Pantry Packers to make boxes of food essentials that will be delivered to hungry families.
Pantry Packers expressed thanks to the Scheck Hillel students. “We thank you for taking time out of your schedule to share in our mitzvah, and enjoyed our time together,” wrote Rabbi Menachem Traxler. “Your group, not only had fun while doing this important chesed (kindness) work, but provided food for families in need.”
“Our Scheck Hillel mission is to educate and inspire students to become exemplary global citizens with enduring Jewish identity and values, and this great mitzvah is the perfect representation of it,” said Vanessa Donaher, Head of Scheck Hillel Community School. “We are very proud of our students, guided by values like kindness here at home and afar.”
About Pantry Packers
Pantry Packers® is the food distribution arm of Tzedakah Central/Colel Chabad, the oldest continuously operating network of social services in Israel – established in 1788.
Every month Pantry Packers® delivers crates containing all the necessary foods and household maintenance supplies to Israel’s poorest families and senior citizens. Every recipient is screened and selected on a non-discriminatory basis by the social services departments of local municipalities without regard to gender, ethnic background, or degree of religious observance. Pantry Packers® maintains a packing plant in Jerusalem where visitors and tourists may partner in its efforts by helping pack food staples which are then included in the Pantry Packers® crates.
