Sculptures by Sharon Dash now at the Alper JCC Futernick Art Gallery
Posted by Brooke Kahn on 04/03/2018 @ 07:59 PM
Miami artist Sharon Dash’s unique and expressive sculptures are on view in Futernick Family Art Gallery at The Dave and Mary Alper Jewish Community Center, 11155 SW 112th Ave, Miami, FL 33176, through May 6, 2018. Admission is free.
Ms. Dash’s award-winning work has been exhibited at juried and invitational shows locally and nationally, with continuous Best of Show and other laudable awards. Her work has been seen in such juried and invitational exhibitions as Essential Earth Invitational Ceramics Exhibition in Wayne, PA, Small Favors XI in Philadelphia, Art of Expression, Artisans on the Avenue in Lake Forth, Ceramics in Architecture at the Coral Gables Museum, Ceramic League of Miami and many more.
Ms. Dash explains: “Ceramic sculpture is my passion! Clay is a magical, expressive medium allowing endless opportunities to explore the figure and create sculpture about the human condition. My sculptures tell stories about people -- their daily lives, emotions, struggles and triumphs. The human face and amazing array of expressions and emotions it can reveal has always fascinated me and continues to be a source of inspiration. Current events, animals, and the South Florida environment also play a role in my sculptures. Each piece is hand-built using stoneware clay, created without an armature and fired in an electric kiln. I generally begin with a concept or idea and work intuitively with the clay to its final conclusion, enjoying the creative journey along the way. I hope viewers will relate to my sculptures with a sense of shared experience, wonder, reflection and an occasional smile.
The Futernick Family Art Gallery is open Sundays 1 – 4pm; Tuesdays and Fridays 9:30am – 4pm; please call for an appointment. . Visit www.alperjcc.org for more information or contact Suzy Breitner at 305.271.9000 ext. 265 or [email protected].
