In an engaging two-hour program, kids will pursue their artistic talents and learn about Sukkot’s powerful message of unity at Chabad Chayil (2601 NE 211th Terrace, NMB).

It’s happening on Sunday October 14th at 10am. Kids will join forces to learn about the unique lesson of the Four Kinds—representing all different kinds of Jews coming together as one—and pop-art techniques from artist and rabbi Yitzchok Moully. Then they’ll use their new skills to create a collaborative masterpiece that will decorate our community sukkah throughout the holiday.

Participants study abroad at Alexander Muss High School in Israel (AMHSI-JNF) and then return home as ambassadors for Israel and future Jewish change-makers. Following the murder of 11 innocent Jews at prayer at Pittsburgh’s Tree of Life synagogue last October, millions of people of all faiths rallied around AJC’s #ShowUpForShabbat initiative, packing synagogues in what became the largest-ever expression of solidarity with the American Jewish community.

The High Holiday Season, when we consider the meaning and purpose of our lives, is the perfect time to remember those who had such an impact upon us. For this reason, it is a popular custom to visit cemeteries between Rosh HaShanah and Yom Kippur. This custom, called kever avot (literally, graves of our parents), is an opportunity to raise, remember and celebrate the souls of those who are no longer with us and reflect upon our own mortality and our role in this life. Join us as we come together in memory and prayer, and light a yahrtzeit candle for those who brought life and light into our lives.

North Miami Beach - Fifty-two 2019 AP Scholar Awards were granted to Scheck Hillel Community School students in recognition of their exceptional achievement on AP exams, continuing a Scheck Hillel tradition.

The College Board’s Advanced Placement Program (AP) provides willing and academically prepared students with the opportunity to take rigorous college-level courses while still in high school, and to earn college credit, advanced placement, or both for successful performance on the AP exams. The College Board recognizes several levels of achievement based on students’ performance on AP exams.

“Congratulations to Scheck Hillel Community School's 2019 AP Scholar Award recipients, their families and our faculty,” said Vanessa Donaher, Scheck Hillel’s Head of School. “Such outstanding academic achievement comes from dedication and commitment shared by all.”

Two Scheck Hillel students qualified for the National AP Scholar Award by earning an average score of at least 4 on all AP exams taken, and scores of 4 or higher on eight or more of these exams. These students are Gabrielle Kurzer ‘20 and Class of 2019 Salutatorian Matias Lancewicki (Cornell University, Gap Year: Mayanot Institute of Jewish Studies).

Eighteen Scheck Hillel students qualified for the AP Scholar with Distinction Award by earning an average score of at least 3.5 on all AP exams taken, and scores of 3 or higher on five or more of these exams.
